Screen Pool Enclosures Design & Engineering

Florida’s pool enclosure wind load requirements, ranging from 115 to 180 MPH, with specific design needs based on location. In Miami-Dade, pool enclosures must support wind loads of 170 MPH, Exposure “C,” Category II. In Broward and Palm Beach Counties, the requirement is 160 MPH. These construction standards were implemented after Hurricane Andrew and updated in 2010 to ensure all new aluminum enclosures are better equipped to withstand hurricane-level wind forces.

In addition, a perimeter footing is required. In most cases, an 8″x 8″ will comply if the new footing is connected off the existing concrete deck. There may be requirements for a larger footing when there is no existing deck to attach the footing (for example a “paver area”).
